Italy is synonymous with luxury and where better for a luxurious city break than the Renaissance city of Florence? Here are some of our top five luxurious activities to do in the city, from gourmet eating, to opera in the Gardens of Boboli and Italian leather glove shopping.

Stop for some gelato at Vivoli
Vivoli is said by many of the locals to be one of the best gelato shops in Florence so a stop here is a must on trip to Florence. Lemon cream, pine nut, coffee, chocolate and rum and pistachio are just a few of the homemade flavours they sell.

Marvel at the stunning art work at the Uffizi Gallery
One of the most famous art galleries in Italy, the Uffizi is a must-see for any visitor to Florence, even if art galleries are not usually your thing. Here you’ll see work by the great masters – Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.  Among the more famous pieces here are the statue of David, The Birth of Venus by Botticelli and Bacchus by Caravaggio.

Go leather glove shopping at Madova
Florence is well known for its artisanal leather products, which you can buy all over the city as well as in the markets. But if you want to be guaranteed a pair of best quality leather gloves then head to Madova which has been going since 1919 – a tiny shops which specialises in them and sells nothing else. Here you’ll find everything from silk-lined to sheepskin and even cashmere-lined.

Eat dinner at Enoteca Pinchiorri
The only restaurant in Florence to have gained a prestigious 3 Michelin stars, Enoteca Pinchiorri is the restaurant to eat at in the city. Dishes are prepared like beautiful works of art and feature dishes such as quinoa leaf with hazelnuts and avocado, lobster with rosemary bell peppers and sweet and sour sauce and coniglio alla cacciatore – stewed rabbit with olives, tomato and mushrooms.There is also an impressive wine list to peruse. 

Listen to some opera at the Boboli Gardens
In the summer one of the best places to watch opera in the city are the famous Boboli Gardens, which make for a perfectly romantic setting. This season there will be operas, orchestras and ballet performances to choose from, from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, to La Traviata and the famous Swan Lake.
